Dr. Deborah Benson, M.B.A., BSc (Hons)
Dr. Deborah Benson has a Doctorate and Masters Degree in Business and a BSc (hons) in Environmental Science. Deborah commenced her career in sales and marketing, rapidly rising to National Marketing Director, then Managing Director roles, responsible for £ multi-million budgets.
Deborah was the first woman to become an M.D. of a large scale construction and development company in Scotland. Under her leadership it became the fastest growing, most profitable regional residential development operation in the company. She is an experienced N.E.D and has set-up, runs and advises start-ups in diverse sectors from property to farming, the environment to film media.
She also has direct experience in charities and non-for-profit organisations and is a member of Inst. Leadership and Management and the Scottish Environmental Technology. She is also registered with Scottish Speakers for public speaking engagements.
Trevor Muir O.B.E.
Trevor Muir has extensive experience in the public sector, having operated at Chief Officer level in Local Government for 22 years. He has been responsible for organisations with over 4,500 employees.
He recently acted as interim CEO of a Scottish Government Body in the architectural field, that was going through restructuring. Trevor has a Degree in Business Administration followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Housing with UK distinction.
Trevor thus brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the leadership issues relating to the public sector and local government in particular, and the complexities of leadership in large organisations.
In 2004, Trevor was awarded an OBE for Services to Local Government.
Ewan Aitken, B.A
A former leader of City of Edinburgh Council and CoSLA spokesperson on Education, Ewan Aitken is now CEO of Cyrenians, a homelessness charity based in Edinburgh. He was elected to the City of Edinburgh Council in 1999 and served as Education Convener as well as several other senior posts. He’s now a member of the CoSLA Commission on Strengthening Local Democracy.
As well as having a great deal of experience in the world of politics, Ewan has founded several very successful 3rd sector organisations and is still on several boards including the Edinburgh International Science Festival, Eco Congregation Scotland and the Ripple Project and is an advisor to Circle Scotland. He’s Chair of BBC Children in Need Scotland and the National Prison Visitor Centre Steering Group. He is a member of the Iona Community.
Robin Burley MBE MSc FRSA MCIArb
Formerly Chief Executive of the Edinvar Group, a housing and community care social enterprise, Robin is an accredited business coach and mediator and has a masters degree in mediation and conflict resolution. He is Chair of the Scottish Mediation Network and a governor of Queen Margaret University. He was awarded an MBE in 2000 for services to the housing association movement and disabled people. He is also a practitioner of MBTI (Myers Briggs) profiling, and is experienced in the conflict styles indicators – TKI (Thomas Kilman Indicator) and the KCSI (Kraybill Conflict Style Inventory). Robin is a partner in Eskhill & Co.
Dr. Barbara McCrory
Dr. Barbara McCrory has over 25 years experience working in various businesses at Director level. Commencing her career with Tesco Trading Director with a final responsibility for over £400 million sales and a team of over 30 people. She has subsequent high level experience in events, marketing and property. Barbara has worked with some of the top UK brands
Barbara holds a Doctorate and an MBA in business and a degree in marketing. Her area of expertise is in understanding how companies can increase profitability by reducing costs, simply by the equal coordination of customer service, continuous improvement and culture. The focus is on a instilling culture of ‘right first time’.
Marian Borde B.A., M.Sc., C. Psychol.
Marian is a chartered business psychologist. She comes from a background as a strategic consultant with the Industrial Society (now called The Work Foundation) where she worked for 5 years and 11 years within central government as a senior psychologist and manager with the then Dept. of Education and Employment. She has over twenty years track record of managing, leading and implementing change, for individuals, teams and organisations. She has led residential leadership development programmes for a cross section of leaders and coached leaders in both the public, voluntary and private sector.
Marian is accredited in psychometric testing Level A & B. She uses these tools and personality profiling to source leaders (16PF) and works with teams to increase confidence and effective working. She constructively challenges executives and top teams to think beyond narrow boundaries. An experienced business coach and facilitator she works with both individuals and groups to effect long term change.
Lindsay Burley CBE FRCPE FRCGP FRSA MCIArb
Previously Chief Executive of Borders Health Board, Lindsay enjoyed a varied thirty year NHS career as a physician and senior manager. Lindsay has held several non executive Board positions and is currently Chair of NHS Education for Scotland and of the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH). She has recently completed two terms as a non-executive director of the Scottish Funding Council and was a member of Court at Napier University. Lindsay was made a CBE in 2011 for services to the Health Services in Scotland. Lindsay is an accredited business coach and mediator and is a partner in Eskhill & Co.
